THE SIXTH HOUSE

In the zodiac, the 6th house is ruled by Virgo, whose motto is: I analyze.

The 6th house is tied to your work, health and to even your pets.  In her wonderful book, "Astrology,

A Cosmic Science" noted astrologer, Isabel Hickey, writes of the link between our work and our health

and notes: "A busy person has no time to be sick." Of course, it's important that we work at what we

love to do, or at least like to do, otherwise it will certainly affect our health negatively.

If Virgo, ruled by Mercury, is the sign on the 6th house, we have every employer's favorite worker:

Virgo never puts down a job until it's done, pays attention to every detail, and worries from start

to finish whether the work is good enough. How does this stress manifest? Virgo often complains of

digestive problems, and suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Of course, Virgo rules the bowels

and intestines.

If we look at Gemini on the cusp of the 6th, ruled by Mercury, we know that variety & diversion is very

important in this person's job, and sitting in a cubicle 8 hours a day would prove to be highly stressful.

Gemini rules the nervous system and the restlessness of this sign has to be nurtured by mental stimulus.

On the other hand, a more placid sign like Taurus on the 6th, ruled by Venus, suggests someone who

settles in to a job and be perfectly content not to move for the next twenty years.

However, we must look at what planets reside in the 6th, because they can change the picture

radically.  For instance, Uranus in the 6th will introduce an element of incompatibility and

conflict. Yes, Taurus likes the known and the comfortable, but Uranus likes to be free, without

restrictions or having someone tell him what to do.

So how will this person handle the stress?

We must look to the whole chart for the answer: What is the Sun sign? The Moon and

Rising Sign? What are the aspects to the 6th house? They will all play vital roles in

or find balance in his work life.

Remember that only your whole chart, with its myriad of signs, houses, and aspects, can

tell you the total and fascinating picture of how you handle your work and your health.
